Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Galab Donev represents Bulgaria at the 14th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the European Stability Mechanism, held on 11 June 2026 in Luxembourg.
The meeting is one of the most important events in the annual calendar of the European Stability Mechanism. It brings together the finance ministers of the euro area member states and their delegations.
Bulgaria’s participation in the meeting takes place in the context of the country’s accession to the Mechanism. On 9 June 2026, Bulgaria officially deposited its instrument of accession to the Treaty Establishing the European Stability Mechanism with the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union. This step completed Bulgaria’s accession procedure to the euro area’s common financial stability mechanism.
The European Stability Mechanism is the permanent financial assistance fund for euro area countries. Its main task is to help safeguard financial stability by providing financial assistance, where necessary, to member states under clearly defined conditions.
Through its membership, Bulgaria gains access to the euro area’s common financial safety net and participates in the decision-making process within the Mechanism. This is another step towards the country’s full participation in the common European financial architecture.
